payment of $20.00 cash must be paid at the clinic. There is an ATM located onsite for
convenience. Program fee helps to fund
the University of Maryland Spirit Squad program.
DESCRIPTION:
Did you miss the first college prep clinic in January??...If so, here is your 2nd chance to learn what’s it’s like to tryout for college cheerleading! This clinic is open to participants 9th grade and
above, as well as current UMD student and potential transfer students. This clinic is incredibly beneficial to
anyone that wants to tryout for the University of Maryland Spirit Squad or another
college or university this year or upcoming years. Open to individuals, teams
and stunt groups!
ATTIRE:
Participants should wear comfortable work-out style clothing and cheerleading
shoes or sneakers for the clinic.
REGISTRATION
PROCESS:
Step
#1: Click here to register online. Please read all information BEFORE submitting your
registration as refunds will not be provided.
All participants MUST have health insurance in order to participate in
the clinic- no exceptions.
Step
#2: Download, print, complete, and sign the CLINIC WAIVER and the EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORM. Participants that are considering trying out
for the 2010-2011 Spirit Squad should contact download and complete the Spirit
Squad Tryout application.
Step
#3: Bring both forms to the clinic on January 31, 2010 in the Comcast
Center Auxiliary Gym. Check-in will
begin at 9:45 AM. The clinic will begin
at 10:00 AM.

PARKING: The closest parking lot to the Auxiliary Gym
is lot 4b. Parking is free without a permit on Sunday’s. Enter the
Comcast Center on the ground level and the auxiliary gym is the first door on
the left side.

REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN: Participants should pre-register online
before showing up to the clinic.
Participants should bring the completed CLINIC WAIVER and the EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORM signed by a parent or guardian.
Participants should bring the remainder of the clinic fee ($20.00
cash) at check-in. Those participants
interested in possibly trying out for the 2010-2011 Spirit Squad should bring

WARM-UP/STRETCH
& JUMP INSTRUCTION: Participants
will participate in a group stretch and receive proper jump technique
instruction. Current Maryland
cheerleaders will demo the triple jump sequence for tryouts.

DANCE
SESSION: Participants will learn a fun and challenging dance. Learning this dance will be especially
beneficial for those participants trying out for the 2010-2011 Spirit Squad
as it will be the official dance scored at tryouts. Participants that are interested in trying out are permitted to video tape the dance.

FIGHT
SONG & CHEER: Participants will learn the University of Maryland fight
song motions/routine and a crowd leading cheer. Learning this routine and cheer will be
especially beneficial for those participants trying out for the 2010-2011
Spirit Squad as it will be scored at tryouts. Participants that are interested in trying out are permitted to video tape the fight song and cheer.

STUNT
CLASS: Participants will be paired up in stunt groups and learn proper
technique for stunt loads, body positions, dismounts and transitions. Stunt difficulty will be adjusted according
to the ability level of participants. Primary
stunt instruction will be all-girl (group stunting). Co-ed stunt instruction available for registered males, and females will be upon request. Please
note: Participants are only guaranteed to perform in their desired stunt
position and stunt difficulty level if they come with their own stunt group
or co-ed partner. For example, for the
safety of the participants, flyers will be assigned to a group based on the
size and skill level of the participants available. If bases of adequate size are not
available, the participant is not guaranteed to fly during the clinic; they
may be taught to base. Participants
are encouraged to register with a stunt group or partner for optimal safety
and success.

CONTINUED
STUNT INSTRUCTION / OPTIONAL GYMNASTICS EVALUATION: For those
participants that are trying out in the spring, the Maryland coaching staff
will watch and evaluate standing and running tumbling with respect to tryout
expectations. This section is completely
optional. Spots will not be provide;
this section for evaluation only.
Participants not interested in tryouts will continue to stunt during
this section.

TRYOUT
DEMO Q&A: Current Maryland Cheerleaders will demonstration a sample tryout
group and will demo each element (jump, tumbling, dance, fight song, cheer
gymnastics and stunt). The coaching staff and current cheerleaders will then answer any questions about college cheerleading that participants may have.
