What skills do you need to be Testudo?

  • First and foremost, potential candidates must be responsible!  Testudo supports all 27 sports and performs at many appearances throughout the year.  Strong candidates must exhibit strong time management skills and he/she will be expected to work events unsupervised.
  • Candidates should be athletic and in good physical shape.  Running and dancing in costume (in addition to lugging the very heavy costume around) Byrd Stadium and the Comcast Center in various temperatures (extreme heat, extreme cold, and rain) can be extremely exhausting.
  • Candidates must be FUN! (both in and out of the suit) – We look for charismatic, outgoing candidates.
  • Candidates must have a free schedule and must be willing to make the mascot program your TOP PRIORITY.  Being Testudo is a HUGE honor and requires a lot of time, dedication and hard work.  If you have several other activities (For example – work, fraternity/sorority, band, etc.) this program will not be a good fit for you.
  • Candidates must be available to attend summer camp in Myrtle Beach, SC with the cheerleading team August 12-15, 2011 (Friday-Sunday).  Summer camp costs $400 (funds can be raised through sponsorships).  Summer camp is absolutely mandatory.
