About the University of Maryland Cheerleading Program

Collectively the University of Maryland Cheerleaders support the University of Maryland football team (at home, away and bowl games), as well as the men’s and women’s basketball teams (at home games and post season ACC and NCAA tournaments).  In addition, selected team members compete once a year at the NCA Collegiate National Cheerleading Championship in Daytona Beach, FL.  The University
of Maryland Cheerleading team consists of both co-ed and all-girl team members. 

Requirements / Selection Process
The University of Maryland Cheerleaders are selected based on numerous qualifications to include: overall cheer”LEADING” ability, gymnastics skills, stunting position, stunting skills, physical fitness, and confidence.

Nationals Team
Selected team members are chosen to compete at the NCA Collegiate National Cheerleading Championship in Daytona Beach, FL.  Participants are selected based on skill level and stunt position.

Scholarships
The athletic department provides 20 book scholarships to the cheerleading team.  The selection process to receive a book scholarship is based on several factors including: the number of years on the squad, need, talent and attitude.  Unfortunately, the University of Maryland cheerleaders do NOT receive tuition scholarships.
